mad science birthday par-tay!

saturday dallin had his mad science birthday party. it was a huge success!

DECORATIONS

this mad scientist laboratory had spooky specimen jars filled with all kids of creepy crawling things. ( i went all over trying to find bugs to put in these mason jars then filled them with water and a few drops of food coloring!)

this was the table that greeted the kids as they walked in. they loved looking in all the jars at the GROSS things that filled them!

i filled my apothecary jars with vegetables i thought looked creepy. i antiqued labels for each jar and did my best spooky writing on each of them then filled them with water and some more food coloring.

this ordinary cabbage became a brain

brussel sprouts became goblin eyes

this turnip became a heart

the tall jar held asparagus the was transformed into witches fingers

the kids loved trying to guess what everything really was!

my cupcakes. can you guess what they are suppose to be?
BEAKERS!

i started thinking that maybe the cake wouldn't be enough so I made some cupcakes too. i made some into beakers and topped some with gummy worms.

the treat boxes were filled with things that every scientist would love.
oriental trading is the best!

the punch was a green frothy potion (made up of ginger ale, pineapple juice & green sherbet) but i told the kids i wasn't sure what effect it might have on them. (it might turn them into a frog!)

dallin with his scientist cake i made him. he looks a little like albert einstein right? (the cake...not dallin)

don't look to closely at the cake. it was my first attempt at a somewhat fancier cake. i definitely had some mishaps but dallin and his friends liked it. i got some flasks and filled them with colored water and some dry ice.

THE SHOW

neutron john from mad science came and did a science show for all the kids. he was so great and entertaining! the kids just loved him. dallin was enthralled the whole time.

dallin helping neutron john with an experiment

one experiment was to have the kids sit on a spinner with weights in their hands. then neutron john would spin them around and have them hold the weights out and then bring them into their chest. they would spin faster when they brought the weights into their chest. all the kids got to try this and it was so funny to watch them spin.

then we went outside and watched him launch rockets

look at all those kids! dallin is so lucky to have so many wonderful friends.

i love this picture...it shows PURE JOY!

after the rocket launch the kids made slime

PRESENTS
dallin had a lot of fun opening his presents. one of the most fun though, was when he opened his present from grandma & grandpa barney. it started off with a big box, when he opened it there was a smaller box inside. this went on for about 8 more boxes. with each new box the kids roared with laughter.

i sure love this little boy and thank everyone who helped make this day so special for him!
